CSP-DeltaWASP-40x60The CSP DeltaWASP 40×60 is the third 3D offering from the WASP Project that has found its way onto one of our lists of best 3D printers within its price range. The WASP Project has been known to produce some remarkable solutions in the field of 3D printing and even manufacturing in general. Developing machines that are capable of both additive and subtractive manufacturing, their mission to change the world with their technology is a sound one, one that they may very well accomplish one day soon as they continue to produce such groundbreaking and innovative products.

The DeltaWASP 40×60 is the bigger brother of the DeltaWASP 20×40, with much of the same features and capabilities, but containing a significantly larger build envelope and a newly designed outer shell that encloses the printer in an envelope of beautiful metal and glass, polished to an impressive and striking shine. Our review of the DeltaWASP 20×40 can be read here.

We had mentioned before that WASP had put out extremely capable and groundbreaking, yet visually unappealing, 3D printers. With this particular model, however, we see a definite improvement in aesthetics and end up with a lot more visually appealing machine that fits the standards of the professional quality 3D printer that is available within this particular price range. It is a reasonable expectation, when a lot of money is spent on something, to have it look good as well as function according to needs. This is completely normal, as we as human beings expect absolutely everything we can get for that money we are paying for a product.

CSP has clearly done the right market research and has recognized that universal truth, opting to create a product in the DeltaWASP 40×60 that would live up to the aesthetic standards at this level. They also recognized that a larger print volume would be in order as well, greatly increasing the size of this printer in a way that would not only allow for large overall volume, but length as well. It was a smart decision to design a printer that would take up a small desktop footprint but be tall enough to accommodate applications that most other printers can’t touch without having to print a project in pieces and bond those pieces together.

With this model, you get the same 300mm/s extrusion speed, the same 50 micron resolution and the same filament compatibilities, as well as a wide range of material support. With this printer, you can use plastic, ABS, nylon, filaflex, polysilicon and laywood, and those are just what is verified. WASP assures us, however, that just about any type of filament material is possible, including chocolate, with experimentation, trial and error and the right configuration. Despite the slightly higher price compared to the other models on this list, the DeltaWASP 40×60 is still the best value due to the wide range of non-proprietary materials that are supported with this printer, making for very inexpensive production costs.

What is different here is that instead of a 200x200x400 mm print area, you get an area of 400x400x600 mm, which is a whopping 16x16x24 inches. You also get a nice tinted look that is impressive to view in any factory setting. With the features that come standard for all WASP 3D printers, as well as the size and design upgrades we see in this model, we are happy to once again include a CSP WASP printer in one of our lists, and this is why we have chosen the CSP DeltaWASP 40×60 as the iReviews top pick for 2015 best 3D printer over $5,000.
